If you're the type who wants a no-nonsense steel fold down clothesline thrown on the wall (or posts) that doesn't muck around then this is for you.

This one's an Australian made clothes line and comes with 28 metres of line space for about 3-4 folks to smash their laundry.

Love my new Clotheline!

I say to my husband; "I know I have said it before, but I love my new clothesline!" I am happy with the height of the clothesline, the space between the lines allows the clothes to dry evenly and the length enables me to hang out the king size sheets and a few more items.

Austral 28 standard clothesline

We brought the Austral 28 almost 12mths ago. It is the perfect size to fit on a colourbond fence. I fitted two 75mm posts between the panels of our new colourbond fence and fixed the clothes to them. It fit perfect and folds down onto the fence discretely and takes up very little space. It would completely blend on if the line was a dark colour. I will change the line to a dark colour when it’s wears out but so far after 12mths it’s still brand new. The clothes line is very solid. There are no plastic parts in the folding mechanism and there is enough play that makes it smooth to fold up and down. After 12mths there has been no signs of wear and tear. We fold it up and down with each use which has been at least 1-2 times a week so far. It still looks and works like new when it came out of the box. I have faith that this clothesline will last as long as the fence it’s attached too.

Austral Standard 28 Clothesline

The product is overall good and serves the purpose we bought it for. The only drawback was that the fold down mechanism does not seem to work very well as the pins do not seem to move into right position without manual adjustments. Since we are unlikely to fold the line down frequently, we did not raise this with the supplier.

clunky new fittings

Once the folding clothes lines is in position, its fine but getting it to stay up is so clunky. the 30yr old line that this one replaced was so much easier to use. The company needs to re-think hold the new mechanism works.

With most models, yes. Just check the Product Page for a ‘Ground Mount Kit’ option.
This is the type of post kit that you will need if you are installing the posts into a grass/soil area in the back yard. It is 2 x Posts(approx. 2200mm long) and 1 x Rear Spreader Bar. This is the most common type of post kit.
A Plated kit allows you to bolt the posts down onto an existing concrete area rather than core drilling or jack hammering holes into the concrete. The posts have metal plates welded on the bottom with holes for dyna-bolting down onto the concrete. It is 2 x Posts(approx. 1800mm long) and 1 x Rear Spreader Bar.
Yes you can but you will just need to make sure the mounting brackets align with the structural supports in the wall. If not you may be able to customise the width of the clothesline(see above) to suit the supports. Another solution would be to purchase a Ground Mount Kit(if available) with the clothesline and install it freestanding in front of the wall.
A general rule of thumb is to install the top bolt of the fixing bracket at approx. 50mm above the users head height. An average height is approx. 1800mm but you can adjust this to suit your requirements.
