Space-Saving Folding Clotheslines for Modern Homes
With the shrinking size of the average Australian backyard, fold down clotheslines have become the modern-day alternative to the traditional Hills Hoist.
Offering generous line space and multiple size options, these folding frame clotheslines suit households big and small.
They can be installed at users' head height for convenience, and with a variety of colour options from brands like Eco and Austral, you can find a model that matches your style and outdoor space.
Wall-Mounted Clotheslines with Ground Mount Options
Fold down clotheslines offer flexibility for different installation preferences.
Wall-mounted models are perfect for saving space, while ground-mounted options, supported by a ground mount kit, provide a free-standing installation.
Ground mounting fold down kits are made of galvanised steel for durability and include plated ground mount kit options with metal plates welded at the post ends.
These kits are ideal for existing concrete areas or decks. Alternatively, a standard ground mount kit is available for different ground surfaces, such as grass or soil.
Whether wall-mounted or free-standing, these clotheslines are built to suit your individual requirements.
Versatile Folding Frame Clotheslines
Many folding clothesline models feature dual frames, offering increased flexibility and hanging space.
For instance, Hills double folding frames are renowned for their quality and versatility, our range includes options that cater to compact apartments or larger backyards and allow you to only use the amount of lines you need.
Compact units are perfect for smaller households, while larger models can handle king-size sheets effortlessly.
No matter the size of your household or the available space, our folding clotheslines provide plenty of line space to meet your drying needs.
Durable and Weather-Resistant Construction
Designed to withstand the harsh Australian climate, fold down clotheslines are made using robust materials like galvanised steel and 316 stainless steel for rust resistance.
These materials ensure durability, even in coastal areas or other challenging environments.
For added sturdiness, some models include pre-assembled side arms and foot plate setups for quick and secure installation.
The use of high-quality components, such as fixing brackets and top bolts, ensures a reliable setup on various surfaces.

Read moreYes, Most fold down clothesline models have a ground mount kit option with some of the smaller units wall mounted only.
There are two types of ground mount kit which are Standard and Plated for the different ground surfaces.
Please see our further detailed faq on the differences between these two types of kits.
The Standard ground mount kit is the type of post kit that you will need if you are installing the posts into a grass/soil area in the back yard.
It is 2 x Posts and 1 x Rear Spreader Bar.
This is the most common type of post kit from ground mounting fold down clotheslines as you dig two holes for the posts and cement them into the ground.
The Plated ground mount kit allows you to bolt the posts down onto the top of an existing concrete area rather than core drilling or jack hammering holes into the concrete.
The posts have metal plates welded on the bottom of the posts or a foot plate setup (varies depending on brand) with holes for dyna-bolting down onto the top of the concrete.
The plated kit consists of 2 x Posts with plates or foot plates and 1 x Rear Spreader Bar.
Yes mounting to a fence is possible but it is not the preferred method for installation of a fold down clothesline.
This is very similar to mounting on a non-brick wall, the mounting brackets would need to align with the fence posts and the posts would have to be solid.
You will also need to check council regulations in your area to see if this is allowed.
A freestanding Ground Mount Kit is an alternative option(recommended) as this allows for the clothesline to be installed independent of the fence, free standing.
A general rule of thumb is to install the top bolt of the fixing bracket at approx.
50mm above the users head height. An average height is approx 1800mm(6ft) but you can adjust this to suit your individual requirements.
